This project characterized the structural system for modular steel houses through an extensive full-scale experimental and numerical analysis, and developed a strategy for optimizing the lateral resisting system by looking at the interaction between cold-formed steel profiles and sheathing boards. The study also investigated the effect of openings in the lateral capacity of wall systems. The impact of the project was demonstrated through reduction of production time, through application of automation in the production line, reduction of embodied carbon in the developed system.
The project won 2 awards, both the Sir John Fowler Award, and the Rise Award for Off-Site Manufacture.
